The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City, colloquially “the Met,” is the biggest art collection in the Western Hemisphere. Drawings and Prints
While other departments have large quantities of prints and drawings, this department is unique in that it has a large number of prints and drawings. The drawings and Prints department specifically focuses on North American pieces and western European work produced following that period, which was the Middle Ages. First Old Master drawings, comprising 670 sheets, were shown as a group at the time of 1880 in the hands of Cornelius Vanderbilt II and launched the department. But, it wasn’t officially established into a separate department until much later.
Musical Instruments
Its musical instrument collection, comprising approximately 5,000 instruments from musical instruments from around the world, is unmatched among significant museums.
